Perezone as corrosion inhibition of brass in the presence of sulfides for preservation of metal artifacts

2021
The organic compounds extracted from plants are of great interest to protect metal surfaces in restauration area. The Perezone is an organic compound extracted from plants and can be obtained in large quantities. The electrochemical evaluation was done using the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization curves (CP). Experimental results show that perezone is effective in protecting a brass surface using sulfides as a corrosive medium. The best corrosion inhibition was at 20 ppm with 96% efficiency by EIS. Using polarization curves, it is shown that the perezone is an anodic-type corrosion inhibitor in the range of concentrations studied. The adsorption process that perezone follows on the surface of the brass is chemisorption type using the Langmuir model.
