Collaborative governance in shared accommodation platform: Moderating role of perceived risk

2021
Abstract Platform performance can be enhanced with efficient control; accordingly, control is a high-priority concern for information technology platforms. However, the influence of formal and informal controls on participation in platform governance continues to be undetermined. In this work, the participation of multiple participants in platform governance in shared accommodation platforms is empirically studied from the user and vendor perspectives. This research also investigates the role of governance intention in the value co-creation of these platforms. An online survey was carried out, which generated 343 user data and 134 vendor data. Results reveal that platform reputation and government regulation positively influence participation in platform governance through formal and informal controls. Meanwhile, the positive effects of management responses and online complaints on platform governance participation differ with the perceptions of groups. The moderating role of perceived risk partially influences platform governance participation and two forms of control (i.e., formal and informal). The outcomes of formal and informal controls vary depending on the perspective.
