Arthritis inmiceinduced byasingle immunisation withcollagen

1996
Objective-To determine whethercollageninduced arthritis (CIA)inmicecanbe satisfactorily induced bya single immunisation andwhether this modelhassome advantages comparedwithconventional CIA,whichisinduced bytwoimmunisations. Methods-Theincidence ofarthritis was observed underdifferent immunisation conditions (variation of speciesof Mycobacterium includedin complete Freund'sadjuvant and themethodof emulsification) andimmunological, histopathological, andpharmacological featureswereexamined. Results-Under optimumimmunisation conditions, joint inflammation developed two to threeweeksaftertheprimary immunisation withanincidence of100% atfourtofiveweeks.Theprogression of thearthritis wasmildandwasassociated withmoderate increases inconcentrations ofserumIgGagainst typeIIcollagen. This CIAmodelwassimilar totheconventional modelin histopathological and phar
