Phase Space Analysis of Complex Optical Systems and Optics Challenges for Next Generation Synchrotron X-ray Sources

2010
Modern synchrotron radiation beamlines with multiple end stations require com- plex optical systems which need to be carefully modelled to optimize performance (1). Within the paraxial approximation I have developed a compact 5D algorithm based on matrices and determinants, to characterize the relevant phase space quantities (beam size, divergence, and energy spread) with respect to their widths and correlations (2). The optics modelling needs for next generation synchrotron light sources, just becoming operative and currently under design or planning, will be outlined.
