Pedagogia militar: do conceito a sua aplicação

The idea that the militarization of public schools in urban peripheries has been the solution to guarantee teaching quality has spread in Brazil. This idea is based on the belief that rigorous discipline inherent in military pedagogy would lead to better school performance. In the search for a more objective understanding of this phenomenon, the article deals with the concept of military pedagogy and its application in the Curso de Formacao de Soldados da Policia Militar do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (CFSd/PMERJ). The main goal is to highlight the concept of military pedagogy and the way it materializes in training courses for soldiers. Based on a survey of 983 CFSd/PMERJ students and alumni, there was a high incidence of negative testimonials regarding the military pedagogy adopted and the impact of this in the training that they obtained. It was concluded that military pedagogy does not enjoy consensus even among military personnel who had experience with this type of training.
