Modeling Statistical Effects in Realistic En Mats with Lorentz-Gaussian Dispersion

2021
Commonly, the material dispersion in time domain electromagnetics is modeled as a collection of the Lorentzian oscillators and Debye relaxations. However, in realistic engineered materials, the absorption rarely follows the ideal Lorentzian shape due to imperfections, and in many cases, is significantly broadened by statistical effects. To simulate the broadening effect, we developed a time-domain compatible Lorentz-Gaussian model and its efficient implementation in time domain solvers based on Generalized Dispersive Material (GDM) formalism.
