Summary A novel algorithm permits simulation of faults based on analysis of 2D or 3D seismic stratigraphic slices under isotropic or pre-defined boundary stress conditions. The algorithm detects local zones of weakness based on the violation of linear integrity criteria. In addition to detecting fault-related edges in the seismic data, the algorithm produces crisp images of stratigraphic boundaries.
