A Lenda da Dama do Pé de Cabra: do Livro de Linhagens do Conde D. Pedro de Barcelos a

2011
The Haros’s family legends, included in earl’s D. Pedro of Barcelos Livro de Linhagens, are narratives with an evident laudatory purpose. The fairy is an important element that contributes to this family lineage’s exaltation. In fact, she gives to its members magical and supernatural characteristics which inspire fear and respect in other Middle Ages rival families. But Alexandre Herculano’s interpretation of this medieval text is contaminated by XIX th century culture and way of thinking. The fairy is now a creature with satanic powers, and nobles and clergy are implacably criticized.
