Esophageal Lyrnphoepithelial Cyst: The First Reported Case

1999
: We report a case of esophageal lymphoepithelial cyst that was found and resected with endoscopy. To our knowledge this is the first ever description of lymphoepithelial cyst in the esophagus. A 69-year-old man presented with dysphagia and the endoscopic study showed a submucosal tumor in the upper esophagus. The resected tumor was found to be composed of epithelial cysts surrounded by lymphoid tissue. The esophageal gland had continuity with the cyst wall and there was lymphocytic infiltration in the cyst wall. These findings suggest that the esophageal lymphoepithelial cyst had arisen from the dilated esophageal gland with reactive lymphoid aggregation.
