Hemoproteins and related models in hydroxylation reactions of organic compounds Part II. Application of cytochrome P-450 in enzyme reactors

1981
Abstract Monooxygenases with cytochrome P-450 as terminal oxidase are able to catalyze the hydroxylation — or other substrate conversion reactions — of organic compounds by molecular oxygen in a mixed function oxidation reaction. This ability is attractive for practical applications both in substrate conversion processes and in analytical systems. The research work with regard to prospective utilization of P-450 catalysis is proceeding in 4 directions: stabilization of the enzyme system, substitution of electron donor and transfer components by simpler principles, preparation of iron porphyrin complexes possessing P-450-like properties as well as the development of suitable enzyme reactors.
