Enhanced Corrosion Resistance of Laser Surface Melted Aluminum Bronze D (CDA-614)

1980
Abstract Laser surface melting followed by rapid self quenching of CDA-614 (Cu-90, Al-6.3, Fe-3.7) results in enhanced corrosion resistance to acidic, sodium chloride solutions. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDAX) is used to analyze corrosion films. The reduction in dealuminification may be attributed to the homogenizing nature of the laser processing. What has been learned about laser surface melting of CDA-614 can be extended to other copper alloys.
