Capacity and Spatial Efficiency of Multichannel Optical Fibers

Few-mode, multicore, and few-mode multicore optical fibers are considered. The concept of multichannel optical fibers (MChF) is introduced. The criterion of fiber channel order is formulated and the spatial-channel classification of optical fibers is being constructed. Analytical expressions for calculating the transfer and spatial parameters of MChF are presented. For variations in the spatial and spectral resource of quartz MChF, the values of capacity and spatial-rate efficiency are determined.
