A Band-Pass Based Position Filter for Electrical Machines Against Low-Order Harmonic Distortion

2019
This work proposes a position filter technique for electrical machines with position sensitive control. It presents a band-pass filter that dynamically eliminates position disturbances due to quantization noise, distributed white noise and high or low-order harmonics. The band-pass resonant frequency is adapted instantaneously by the speed estimation of the electrical machine. The filter shows an outstanding accuracy and is able to improve the control of electrical machines. The proposed technique is evaluated in simulations and experimentally validated for switched reluctance drives. Overall, the methodology promotes precise position estimation and aims to ensure more safe and reliable operation of drive systems.
