A novel method for fast detection of high-speed targets

Abstract Range migration is an inevitable problem when detecting moving targets. Especially, for the high-speed targets, the measurements will be ambiguous in Doppler, which further complicates this problem. Range migration is the result of the well-known range-Doppler coupling. The range-Doppler coupling can be also regarded as the coupling between the range and velocity. By using the reversal operation in the slow time and fast frequency domain, a signal with the opposite characteristic of the range-velocity coupling can be obtained to counteract the range-velocity coupling in the echo signal, which allows the energy of the target can be accumulated in the same range-Doppler cell. Compared with other existing methods for high-speed target detection, the proposed method shows its advantages in the simplicity of implementation and computational efficiency. Experiments based on simulated data and real data are carried out to assess the performance of the proposed method.
