Split-Mid-Point Modular Design for Low-Load Efficiency Boost in WBG Power Converters

Power converter efficiency is usually optimized for a nominal high output power value. However, in high frequency applications, such as with wide-band-gap devices, efficiency drops significantly at relatively low power outputs. Since most power converters operate most of the time at relatively low loads, the result is significant energy waste over time. This paper proposes an innovative converter design approach to mitigate such issues.
