A solid state impulse marx generator

2011
Extremely compact pulsed power sources designed to deliver sub-nanosecond wide pulses are finding applications in impulse radar systems and RF weapons. Impulse radar systems offer the realtime advantage of keeping and processing all the data in the time domain, instead of transforming the data between the time and frequency domains. RF weapons designed for close-proximity applications will require high peak electric fields delivered from compact handheld devices. Impulse solid state solutions are ideal, with peak electric fields of 10's kV/m and repetition rates in the kHz. Applied Physical Electronics, L.C. has been developing a circuit card, solid state solution well suited for compact Ultra Wide Band (UWB) radiation. This paper describes the technology and presents experimental results.
