Superhydrophobic Film Based on Cu-dodecanethiol Complex: Preparation and Corrosion Inhibition for Cu

2018
Abstract The value of superhydrophobicity in metal corrosion inhibition has generated wide interest due to the high repellent capability from the versatile surface. In this report, using a facile electrolysis approach, we have realized the superhydrophobic film onto Cu surface by the coordination with dodecanethiol based on an electrooxidation-deposition route. The as-formed film behaves as the prominent barrier for inhibiting the corrosion. After immersion in 3.5 wt.% NaCl aqueous solution for 15 days, this superhydrophobic surface still enables high corrosion prohibition effect to the underneath Cu with the inhibition efficiency reaching as high as 99.9%.
