On the Production of Pions and Muons for the Purposes of Muon-Catalyzed Fusion

In order to get the necessary yield of parent particles for muon-catalyzed fusion (μCF) purposes, an adequate production of negative pions represents the most effective mean, provided the pions are released in suitable beam-target collisions. If one takes into consideration the possibility of exploiting μCF for energy applications, the problem of the cost of the primary pions turns out to be essential.
