A process for the regeneration of a lean NOx trap (LNT) of an exhaust gas purification system which is provided with the LNT and a catalyst for selective catalytic reduction (SCR), may include: determining whether a regeneration condition of the LNT release is satisfied; Determining whether a regeneration request condition of the LNT is satisfied; and performing the regeneration of the LNT if the regeneration of the LNT release condition and the regeneration request condition of the LNT are met. In particular, the regeneration of the LNT release condition is satisfied if both an engine operating condition, an LNT-state condition and a lambda probe synchronization conditions are satisfied.
