Design of gain-optimized perfect reconstruction regular lattice filter banks

1994
ABSTRACT This paper considers perfect reconstruction lattice filter banks. When optimizing for coding gain the purposeis to find a. simple perfect reconstruction structure with few multiplications and reasonable gain. We present sucha system which also possesses a certain regularity when expanding from N to 2N channels. Results includingboth obtained gain and the number of filter multiplications and filter magnitude responses are presented. The results show that the system gives strange filter responses, but good coding gain considering the number of multiplications. Keywords: filter bank design, coding gain optimization, perfect reconstruction, lattice filter bank. 1 INTRODUCTION Perfect reconstruction (PR) lattice filter banks are known from.13 Vaidyanathan3 gives a detailed descriptionof 2-channel lattice structures for linear phase FIR PR QMF banks. Vetterli' and Nguyen2 show possible exten-siolls to N-channel PR lattice structures. In these papers the PR criterion must be a part of the object function
