Deep venous thrombosis is a common, serious, often underrecognized diagnosis in the critically ill patient. Its high association with pulmonary embolization necessitates both prompt diagnosis and constant surveillance. The advantages of compression ultrasonography provide a practical approach for performing the diagnosis by the critical care team.
