Culture: The Bedrock of Identity and Authenticity in the Select Novels of Kavery Nambisan

2020
The culture of any community reflects the family life, regional food practices, beliefs and moral values passed through various generations. It establishes and retains the identity of the group. A woman of the house shares a greater role in the domestic life of a family. Food acts as a symbol of warmth, love and hospitality among the family as well as the labourers. Culture defines the unique behaviour, pride and social attributes leaving a distinct mark among the members of other communities. The personality of an individual is also constructed through the experiences and memories associated with food and cultural traits. Kavery Nambisan, the South Indian writer-surgeon is remarkable for her lucid style and medical anecdotes.
