Mielitis transversa aguda asociada a virus herpes simple tipo 1 y 2. Caso clínico

2018
Acute transverse myelitis is a rare neurological disorder, secondary to a focal inflammatory process of the spinal cord. The clinical picture combines motor, sensory and autonomic symptoms. In few cases it is possible to identify its etiology and it is for this reason that it is generally called idiopathic. Herpes simplex virus has rarely been described as a cause of transverse myelitis. We report the case of a 53-year-old woman with no contributing pathological history, presenting with dorsal pain of 15 days of evolution, followed by paresthesias and progressive weakness of the lower limbs with urinary retention and fecal incontinence. An early diagnosis and timely treatment allowed a complete resolution of the symptoms.
