Limits of the post-form DWBA from neutron-proton correlations observed in the breakup of 15 MeV deuterons on gold

Abstract Neutron angular distributions from the reaction 197 Au(d, pn) 197 Au were measured in coincidence with protons at γ p = 40° and 80° at a deuteron bombarding energy of 15 MeV from θ n = − 24° to + 24° and from θ = + 45° to + 93°. Below 6 MeV proton energy the corresponding breakup calculations in the post-form DWBA underestimate the experimental results by two orders of magnitude while for higher energies good agreement is found.
