Evaluation of energy efficient radio-over-fiber for high-speed train testbed

2018
In this paper, we provide an experimental evaluation of a commercial grade energy efficient radio-over-fiber (RoF) network for high-speed trains. While the fifth generation (5G) aims to improve network capacity by a thousand-fold through network densification, energy consumption management has become very challenging. Towards this vision, we develop and evaluate an RoF-based software defined energy management and monitoring application (EMMA) for high-speed train networks. Our experimental results show that the proposed solution can not only minimize the network energy footprint, but also provide a monitoring platform for network administers and maintains the quality of service
