Document image compressing and expanding LSI processor

1988
A single-chip LSI processor (FCP: Facsimile Codec Processor) is developed which executes the encoding and decoding of binary images using the MH and MR codes. The developed FCP has the following special features: (1) high-speed changing pixels detection and decoded pixels generation by means of processing 16-bit pixels in parallel using a 16-bit video bus operated independently of the MPU bus; (2) use of 2-μm CMOS technology with about 64,000 transistors; (3) encoding or decoding an A4 size document (standard letter size) in approximately one second.
