The invention relates to an electrical power system standby capacity calculating method containing wind power and a system thereof. The method is characterized by acquiring a capacity of each wind turbine generator in an electric power system; according to the capacity of each wind turbine generator, simulating and calculating maximum output per month and average output per month of each wind turbine generator; taking the maximum output per month of each wind turbine generator as output of a wind turbine generator so as to carry out load flow calculation and constructing a wind scene; replacing the wind turbine generator in the wind scene with an equivalent set whose capacity is the average output per month of the corresponding wind turbine generator and constructing an equivalent breezeless scene; connecting a standby set into a node with a maximum capacity in a grid-connected wind power system of a wind scene so as to obtain an adding standby wind scene; using a dichotomy to carry out reliability evaluation on the adding standby wind scene and the equivalent breezeless scene so as to obtain a reliability difference value; and acquiring a standby capacity needing to be added in the electric power system when the reliability difference value is in a preset scope. An influence of wind power randomness on a system standby demand is effectively evaluated and accuracy of a calculating result is increased.
