New IEEE 802.11 HEW Standard Throughput per User Analysis

2019
The 802.11 standard is constantly being developed. Work is underway on new capabilities and a new full amendment called 802.11ax. The new standard is to provide four times higher throughput per user in a given area than previous standards. To this end, a number of new solutions have been applied in the new standard. The biggest change compared to the 802.11n and 802.11ac standards was the introduction of four times more subcarriers and a set of subcarriers sufficient to support one user, which was named resource unit RU. The authors of the article carried out a series of calculations in order to verify whether the applied solutions make it possible to achieve a four times higher average throughput per user in a high-user-density environment, such as a stadium or public transport.
