Chromoendoscopy techniques in imaging of colorectal polyps and cancer:overview and practical applications for detection and characterization

2020
ABSTRACT Colonoscopy has already demonstrated to reduce colorectal cancer risk and mortality by detection and resection of precursor lesions. However, its role for preventing colorectal cancer still has limitations. Image enhancement techniques have been developed to improve the diagnostic yield of colonoscopy and to optimize the management and surveillance of colorectal lesions. We aimed to review basic concepts, benefits, limitations, and practical applications of image enhancement techniques in colorectal cancer average and high-risk population, according to the current evidence and experience.
