Structure and electromagnetic properties of Ti3C2Tx MXene derived from Ti3AlC2 with different microstructures

Abstract As the precursor of MXenes, the microstructure of MAX phases would directly influence the structures and electromagnetic (EM) absorbing properties of MXenes. To reveal this effect, five kinds of Ti3AlC2 powders with different microstructures and compositions were chosen, and then were etched by HF solution to prepare Ti3C2Tx. The results showed that the larger flake area and less impurity content in Ti3AlC2 powder can lead to better EM absorption ability of as-derived Ti3C2Tx. This study provides a new way to regulate the EM absorbing performance of MXene by tailoring the structures of MAX phases.
