Acetabular Implant Placement: How Do We Place It in the 21st Century?

2019
Abstract Hip instability is one of the major complications after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and carries a significant financial burden on the health system. Implant malpositioning is among the most important risk factors for this complication. The optimal component position has been investigated since the inception of total hip arthroplasty, but it is not completely defined. In this paper, we review the historical “safe zone” for the acetabular implant and current optimal techniques for implant positioning, including the use of available technologies.
