Equalizing method and device

PURPOSE: To simplify the equalization processing on a receiver side for a transmission line having interference between codes. CONSTITUTION: Transmission states S 1 -S 16 are divided into four blocks to decide representative points D 1 -D 4 of each block. Then a path of a maximum transition probability is obtained for each representative point by the Viterbi algorithm and a path of a maximum transition probability is obtained among states among blocks along the path. As a result, since the transition probability between states belonging to blocks which representing points are not connected is small, then the effect on the maximum likelihood characteristic is small by neglecting it and the entire calculation quantity is remarkably reduced.
