The present invention provides a color erasing apparatus and a control method thereof. The color erasing apparatus includes a conveyance member to convey a sheet on which an image is formed of a color erasable coloring material, a color erasing part to erase a color of the coloring material of the image formed on the sheet conveyed by the conveyance member, a switching mechanism to switch the color erasing part; a notification part to notify information of opening the color erasing part by the switching mechanism; and a control part to notify and notice information of the opening in the case that achromatism process of the color erasing part is stopped.
