Theinfluence ofageonnephrotoxicity following chemotherapy inchildren

1992
Distal tubular function was evaluated bymeasurementoftheearly morning urine osmolality. Younger children hadmore severeproximal tubular toxicity thanolder children treated withifosfamide, withsignificantly lowerplasma phosphate concentrations andhigher fractional excretions ofglucose. However, there was no evidence ofany suchdifference inglomerular or distal tubular damageafter ifosfamide, andno difference inany aspect of renal function between youngerandolder children treated withcisplatinum. Increased proximal tubular toxicity after ifosfamide inyoungerchildren may haveserious implications forfuture growth anddevelop- ment.
