A reflection of using videos of interactions between expert and novice practitioners: An in-depth exploration of the experience of expert and novice teachers

2021
This poster will summarise the work that we have been doing on the Innovation project this year. IRIS Connect is a professional development tool used in teaching which gives teachers the opportunity to record classroom-based teaching and learning or capture online teaching. Teachers can reflect on teaching and learning, analyse practice, add time-stamped comments, edit their videos and share with colleagues or leaders for feedback. This poster will explore the versatility of IRIS Connect as a ABL tool using Initial Teacher Training (ITT) students to co create the content and to explore the ways in which IRIS Connect technology can be applied to developing the skills, knowledge and understanding of ITT students. This poster will reflect upon the progress of the project from the viewpoint of our postgraduate researchers who are also participating in the project as a novice teacher (Beth) and an expert teacher (Tom). The poster will detail the nature of the project and the aims and demonstrate the capability of the IrisConnect platform. Our early findings, related to how the videos created have facilitated the dialogues between novice and expert teachers will be demonstrated with the aim to identify the types of talk used, the discussions had and the relative merits of using video mentoring.
