T05-O-15 Our experiences and reflections on sexual function in women operated for Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) with Trans-Obturator Tape (TOT)

Introduction Urinary incontinence often causes sexual discomfort in women. Today many surgical procedures are used to treat this condition. We examined the satisfaction of the patients operated with TOT-deLeval procedure. Material and method 14 patients, aged from 58to64 years(m.58,7), underwent to TOT application. 11 had a only SUI and 3 presented also an urge incontinence. 6 months after the operation every patient was presented with a questionnaire (20questions) to evaluate the satisfaction of continence, sexual function and overall satisfaction. Results With regard to the incontinence the results were very good. None patients reported coital incontinence; 1patient restarted sexual activity after 6weeks of surgery, 9 patients after 8 weeks and 4 after 3 months. 3 patients reported 1-2sexual intercourses in the prior 4weeks, 6 patients reported 3-4intercourses and 5 patients 5-8. 5 patients reported an improved sexual life after surgery and 9 unchanged. 12 patients didn’t experience pain during intercourse. Libido was unchanged. Every patient reported good overall satisfaction. Discussion Not many studies have been conducted on sexual function after TOT-procedure. Our results aren’t evaluating this function, even if the procedure doesn’t seem to worsen the sexual function, but our work intends to raise this problem and include it in the diagnostic protocol of urinary incontinence with a test evaluating the sexual function before and after the surgical procedure. In this way it will be possible to understand if the correction of the SUI can really improve the sexual life of the patients.
