Crónica de un proceso de pérdida patrimonial de toponimia histórica Mayor de Cantabria: El caso de Miera (i)

2019
Miera is the historical name that throughout received a famous Cantabrian village that stood out in ancient times among the populations of the Miera river. After centuries of toponymic stability of the name of Miera and without functional or administrative justification, the neighbourhood of La Carcoba begins its presence as a «municipal capital» in documents and ends up supplanting the historic name of Miera. At the urging of the people, the Centro de Estudios Montaneses prepared a report about the toponymes Miera / La Carcoba that was rejected by the mayor’s office which commissioned other reports asking if «the capital La Carcoba should be replaced by Miera». Original documentation of Miera’s toponymic process is provided. The historical name Miera and the origin of the long and paradoxical dilemma are studied, recently reborned from the depopulation and deculturation; both will directed the future of this problem.
