TRACKING A RAIL YARD REHAB

The Stamford Rail Yard is the largest yard on Metro-North's New Haven Line, which runs between New Haven and New York's Grand Central Station. Located roughly midway between the line's endpoints, it is a crucial link in the commuter rail system, providing overnight storage for half of its trains. In the early 1980s it was determined that a major rehabilitation effort was necessary to run the commuter line more cost-effectively; by 1994 the yard's rehabilitation was underway.
