The invention discloses an indoor positioning method based on mobile phone image matching. Step one, an indoor ground is divided into multiple virtual grids; step two, four images are photographed in each virtual grid, and all the photographed images in the indoor virtual grids are saved as four types images according to difference of photographing directions; one or multiple reference images is/are selected in each type of images, and the reference images of each type of images are matched with the corresponding type of images in a one-to-one way; step three, a target user uses a mobile phone to photograph images to be matched and confirms images to be searched according to direction information; the optimal matching image of the images to be matched is searched in the images to be searched; and step four, weighted values are respectively assigned to the virtual grid corresponding to a target rough position and eight neighbor grids; and the position of the target use is calculated according to the weighted values. The method is accurate in positioning and low in algorithm complexity without installation of other hardware on the mobile phone, and positioning can be completed only by using the camera of the mobile phone so that cost is low, reliability is high and generality is great.
