Method of producing calcium stearate

2015
FIELD: chemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing calcium stearate, used as a stabiliser in formulations of plastic compounds of polyvinyl chloride and processes for production of paint materials. Method involves reaction of stearic acid and calcium hydroxide, with heating and intense stirring, process is carried out using an aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide in presence of a surfactant in water or water-alcohol-acetone medium in volume ratio water:alcohol:acetone = 1-2:1-1.6:1, first while stirring at temperature 20-90 °C for 0.5-2 h with subsequent holding at 95-100 °C for 0.5-0.8 h, wherein during process in a water-alcohol-acetone medium mixing of mixture of stearic acid, water, alcohol and acetone is carried out at room temperature or temperature of 25-40 °C in presence of a surfactant, then temperature of mixture is raised to 80-85 °C, followed by dosing 28-35 % aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide, mixture is stirred at temperature 80-90 °C and held at 95-100 °C; and when carrying out process in an aqueous medium mixing is carried out at temperature 80-90 °C in presence of a surfactant and holding is carried out at 95-100 °C. EFFECT: efficient method of producing calcium stearate. 1 cl, 1 tbl, 9 ex
