Reflections on the Images in "Enrolled Peasants" Novels

2010
In the late 1980s,a series of camp novels were published after the Recruit Company by Liu Zhenyun came into being. These novels describing enrolled peasants and brought about a new trend on writing of this topic. These novels reveal the life and mind of enrolled peasants break some shackles of military novels and deconstruct the fixed "heroic complex" of authors composing camp novels. After reading these novels,we may have a clear understanding of the bidirectional process of dissimilation and metamorphosis of the soldiers on their road toward modernization.Under the condition of market economy, this judgment to some degree might be a vivid and true-to-life description of the psychological metamorphosis of enrolled peasants. However,if anyone continually magnifies this partial truth with unlimited overstatements,he/she is on the way of inaccuracy and parochialism which lead their works toward untruth or even immorality and misjudgment.
