Temporoparietal Fascial Flap

The temporal fossa is a lateral region of the scalp delimited anteriorly by the frontal process of the zygomatic bone, superiorly by the superior temporal line (i.e., a curved bony line of the squamous part of the temporal bone), and inferiorly by the zygomatic arch. The temporoparietal fascia, a 2 to 4 mm thick layer of connective tissue, is considered as a superior extension of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). The temporoparietal fascial flap (TPFF) is a thin, pliable, high vascularize flap, based on the superficial temporal artery and vein. In this chapter, neurovascular anatomy and harvesting surgical technique of the TPFF are fully described. Moreover, analytical factors and technical considerations about RFFF are deeply discussed.
