In a signal scanner for the scanning of signals stored on an information carrier which is moving with a velocity relative to the signal scanner, an element including a diamond adapted at least for guiding the signal scanner by following a groove, which diamond has at least one part of its bounding surfaces selected from the natural crystal surfaces of diamond, on which part the crystallographic orientation of the diamond is recognizable.
