Upgrading the Solar-Stellar Connection: News about activity in Cool Stars

2014
NASA Sagan fellowAbstract. In this splinter session, ten speakers presented results on solarand stellar activity and how the two elds are connected. This was followedby a lively discussion and supplemented by short, one-minute highlight talks. The talks presented new theoretical and observational results on mass accre-tion on the Sun, the activity rate of are stars, the evolution of the stellarmagnetic eld on time scales of a single cycle and over the lifetime of a star, and two di erent approaches to model the radial-velocity jitter in cool starsthat is due to the granulation on the surface. Talks and discussion showedhow much the interpretation of stellar activity data relies on the sun andhow the large number of objects available in stellar studies can extend theparameter range of activity models.1
