A strong blue light-emitting material K2Ni(SO4)2·6H2O: Photoluminescence and magnetic properties

Abstract A good quality blue light-emitting potassium nickel sulfate hexahydrate crystal has been synthesized and characterized. X-ray diffraction studies confirm the crystalline phase of the material to be monoclinic with space group P21/a. FTIR spectral studies corroborate the functional groups associated with the material. Magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range 3–300 K indicate the occurrence of predominantly strong antiferromagnetic interactions among the neighboring Ni2+ ions. Photoluminescence analysis reveals that the material has a strong blue light emission with peak maximum at ~482 nm. The luminescent recital makes this material an excellent candidate for potential display applications.
