THE EFFECT OF ETHYL NORGESTRIENONE ON DECIDUAL CELLS OF RATS

1979
The aim of the present work isto find out the effect of ethyl norges-trienone on decidual cells of earlypregnancy.Rats are used as the ex-perimental material. The syntheticsteroid was administered by subcut-aneous injection on the seventh dayof pregnancy (the day of obscrvationof sperms in the vaginal smear is consid-ered as the first day of pregnancy)when decidual cells have begun tobe formed. It was observed that ethylnorgestrienone exerted injurious effecton decidual cells already formed atthe time of drug administration andthose formed hereafter. In conne-ction with results of other works thefollowing points were discussed:(1)The interruption of implantation bythe drug was realized through its in-jurious effect on decidual cells.(2)In intact animals the iujurious effectof the drug on the decidual cells wasessentially an indirect action of insu-fficiency of progesterone supply.
