Oil discriminating device

1992
PURPOSE: To quickly discriminate synthetic oil from mineral oil with a simple constitution. CONSTITUTION: A pair of detecting electrodes 3a and 3b are dipped in oil A to be detected. The electrodes 3a and 3b and a detecting resistance 10 are energized from a DC converter 9. A discrimination circuit 12 detects the terminal voltage of the resistance 10 and compares the detected terminal voltage with a threshold. The threshold is set at an intermediate value of the detecting values of synthetic oil and mineral oil based on the detected terminal voltage. Therefore, the kind of the oil can be quickly discriminated and, at the same time, the discriminated result is displayed by means of lamps 6 and 7. An appropriate value is stored as the threshold in accordance with the detected temperature of a temperature sensor 4. It is also possible to detect the change in capacitance between the electrodes 3a and 3b as a change in the oscillating frequency of an oscillation circuit by regarding the oil to be detected as a dielectric substance.
