SP0158 The Lupus Secrets: Latest Treatment Recommendations

2015
Systemic lupus erythematosus is a complex disease that is genetic in origin, yet triggered by many events in our environment. Learning to regularly avoid the well-known triggers is an important part in learning to improve disease activity in lupus. Dr. Thomas, author of “The Lupus Encyclopedia: A Comprehensive Guide for Patients and Families” strongly believes that patients should be empowered with knowledge to help improve how their lupus does, live longer, and have a better quality of life. He will share with the audience what he calls “The Lupus Secrets”, which is an important list of things that most, if not all, people with lupus should do in order to fight against their disease to the fullest. This list includes what triggers should be avoided and improved upon. It includes important measures to do that can improve the treatments given by doctors, and what to do in order to prevent common complications from lupus (such as infections, heart disease, and cancers). Better medical therapies for lupus are quickly evolving to include recent expert recommendations that should be used world-wide. He will share these recent recommendations, called “Treat-to-Target in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus”, with the audience. In Dr. Thomas9 experience, those patients who arm themselves with this information plus put it into effect do better in dealing with their disease than those who do not. Make sure to attend this important talk if you or a loved one has lupus and wish to learn what you can do to combat this horrible disease. Disclosure of Interest D.
