Chapter Five. A Tablet In Imperial Rome (L 11)
2008
The tablet found at Rome begins with an almost identical formula as that from Thurii, referring to the fact that the soul comes pure from among the pure, and with an invocation to the subterranean Queen, to Eucles and to Eubouleus, and the deceased woman is told that she will be transformed into a goddess. The most unusual feature of this tablet is the one we encounter in the last verse, where the reference to the initiate's deification is accompanied by her name, Caecilia Secundina. This Roman woman, like the mystes in the ones with a brief text, proclaims her own name and her own identity. Keywords:Caecilia Secundina; Imperial Rome (L 11); tablets
