Joining of spheroidal graphite cast iron to stainless steel by impact-electric current discharge joining

2004
Abstract Joining has been carried out between FCD450/SUS304 samples to investigate the influence of joining conditions on joint properties, by an impact-electric current discharge joining machine that can apply impact load and electric current simultaneously. High joint strength is achieved in samples joined under early or simultaneous start of electric current without pulse superimposition in relation to application of impact force. Fracture stress and area fraction of the actually joined portion at the FCD450/SUS304 interface increase with amount and period of electric current flow and with impact load, because joining state is improved at the joint interface.
